Star Candleholder

Star Candleholder
Total Time Needed:
1 Hour

Add a little star light to the holiday meal with these clay candleholders.

Materials
  • Polymer clay (Sculpey III or Fimo)
  • Scissors
  • Waxed paper
  • Star cookie cutter
  • Pencil
  • Glass baking dish
  • Dripless taper candles
X

Instructions
  1. Knead the clay on a sheet of waxed paper, then roll it out to a thickness of about 1 inch using a drinking glass or marble rolling pin. Don't use a wooden one; the clay will stick. Cut out a star with a cookie cutter.

  2. Using a pencil, gradually make a hole in the center; if you move too quickly, you'll distort the shape. Test the fit with a candle when you think the hole is correctly sized. Make sure it's a perfect fit, then set the star in a glass baking dish. Bake according to the manufacturer's directions (usually about 30 minutes).

  3. Once the holder has cooled, put in a candle, using an unbaked piece of clay to secure it, if necessary.

Tips:
If you're worried about wax leaking (which shouldn't happen if the fit is tight), set a star-shaped piece of foil under each holder.
Variations:
Use the same technique to make six-pointed Stars of David for a Hanukkah feast.
