Easy Bead Jewelry

Easy Bead Jewelry
Total Time Needed:
1 Hour

With this jewelry-making project, kids can make bead necklaces and redesign them daily.

Materials
  • Safety pins
  • Assortment of beads
  • Leather cord
  • Hooked metal clasps (available at craft supply or bead stores)
X

Instructions
  1. To make the safety pin charms, open the clasps of each pin, slip one or more beads over the point and close the clasp. Make several charms, such as one with a single clay tube bead and another with a succession of smaller plastic beads.

  2. For a long necklace, cut a length of leather cord that can be slipped over your child's head when tied. Then, thread the cord through the loop joints of the beaded safety pins.

  3. For a choker style, attach an ordinary hook clasp to a short length of cord. String on the charms, then put one end of the cord around the small, closed end of the clasp. Make a loop on the other end of the cord and close the clasp around it. To redesign this necklace, just open and close the safety pins and slip on a new set of beads.

Variations:
Kids can use the same technique to make a charm bracelet, or exchange friendship pins to wear on their shoelaces.
